Abstract

A buoyancy device to assist the learning of swimming comprises at least one strap 10 fastenable about the torso of a user and a plurality of blocks 12 of buoyant material each separately attachable to and removable from the or each strap 10. Conveniently, each block 12 comprises an expanded plastics material contained in a fabric pocket 13 threaded on the or each strap. The buoyancy effect can be adjusted by altering the number of blocks 12 attached to the or each strap 10, whereby the assistance given to a novice swimmer can be altered to suit that swimmer's ability. <IMAGE>
