Abstract

A sanitary napkin, diaper or the like for absorbing human body excretions comprises a liquid-absorbing core (1), a liquid-permeable cover (5) and a substantially liquid-impermeable barrier layer (2) arranged between the cover and the core. The barrier layer consists of two material webs having mutually overlapping edges situated on the bottom side of the core, the other edges of said webs being essentially parallel and situated at a mutual distance from each other. To manufacture the napkin, the liquid-absorbing core (1) is applied to a support consisting of a web of cover material and two substantially parallel webs of barrier material lying on top of the same at a mutual distance from each other, whereupon the support is overlap-folded around the core, the barrier layer material inside the cover material finally being joined together and cut off at the two ends of the absorption core. <IMAGE>
