Abstract

A hermetically sealed terminal block comprising a housing (41) formed of a molded thermo-setting material having a relatively small coefficient of thermal expansion; and at least one electrically conductive terminal (42) having a relatively large coefficient of thermal expansion substantially encapsulated within the housing and having at least two axially spaced annular rings (44, 46) disposed substantially at either end of said terminal, each ring having a radially extending surface (48, 50) facing toward said other ring in contact with an opposed radial surface formed in the housing, the relative difference between said coefficients of thermal expansion of said housing and said terminal resulting in said radial surfaces of said annular rings generating a compressive force against said opposed surfaces of said housing when said terminal and said housing are subjected to a relatively warm temperature and thereafter cooled. <IMAGE>
