Abstract
A refrigeration system comprises a compressor (111) for increasing the temperature and pressure of a gaseous refrigerant; a condenser (122) connected to the compressor wherein the refrigerant changes state from a gas to a liquid; an economizer (128) connected to the condenser in which the liquid refrigerant is partially flashed; a heat exchanger (142) for condensing the flash gas to liquid refrigerant; and an evaporator (136) for cooling a heat transfer fluid, said evaporator receiving liquid refrigerant from the liquid bath (130) via an expansion device (134), and discharging gaseous refrigerant to the compressor. In a second embodiment (Fig 3, not shown) a vapour conduit (48, Fig 3) interconnects the economizer with the first stage of a two-stage compressor. <IMAGE>
