Abstract
A sampler containing a mould for obtaining a solid homogeneous pin sample, free from cavities, voids and piping, from molten steel suitable for analysis for hydrogen. The mould comprises an unobstructed uniform heat-resistant tube (11) open at both ends; the mould extends from an entry chamber (15, 18) and an insulating outer covering (13) is provided. The entry chamber may be double chambered, the chamber 15 adjacent the mould may contain a deoxidant (22), and the remote chamber 18 may be sealed by a fusible plug (21) and may carry a fusible protective cap (23) to shield it from slag during immersion into a melt. The insulating covering 13 may be a cardboard tube inside which a cardboard handle 25 can be stapled. <IMAGE>
