Abstract
The machine comprises a vertical shaft 1 and a collar 7 which supports vertical grids 8 extending radially of the collar. Each grid 8 is associated with flexible sheets 6 which cover at least part of the grid during downwind motion and extend parallel to the wind direction during upwind motion. The collar 7 is held relative to the shaft by a spring 14 until the turning moment due to the wind impinging on the sheets 6 exceeds the opposite turning moment due to the spring 14 when the collar rotates relative to the shaft 1 reducing the area of each grid 8 covered by the sheets 6 thereby limiting the turning moment to a predetermined value. <IMAGE>
