Abstract
A prism A consists of a body of transparent material in one surface of which there is formed a recess 1 of generally conical configuration so that radiation entering the body from 360 DEG around the body is subject to total internal reflection at the interface between the wall of the recess and the environment, and the detector is positioned so that the radiation which enters is constrained to leave the body to be focussed by a lens arrangement C on to a detector D for providing an electrical signal.
