Abstract

It is known to produce metallic/ non-metallic products in which non- metallic fibres are calcined in sheets under pressure with a metal. Such products have highly directional properties. It is also known to produce cermets by casting a metal coated non-metallic element with a metal, but this does not work for materials such as boron and aluminium. The present invention discloses a method of manufacturing a composite product and a composite product having a metal covering 1 e.g. aluminium, which contains a mixture 2 of powder of a non-metallic element e.g. boron, bismuth or graphite and a metallic element e.g. aluminium, the non-metallic element being insoluble or substantially insoluble in the solid state with the metallic element. The product may formed by drawing and rolling and may be used as a cladding panel or screen. <IMAGE>
