Abstract
This invention adds a further facility to a vertical shafted rotary lawn mower. The quality of a lawn is improved by controlling those elements of a lawn's population which have part of their growth horizontal, thus giving more chance to the upstanding leaf grasses, which would, otherwise, be choked off by the more robust elements-rye grasses, clover, etc. This is achieved by the addition, to the mowing cutter bar 12, of blade(s) 10, which whether they be integral or adjustable, fixed or pivotally mounted, protrude vertically downwards below the plane of the mowing blades. The effect of these additional blade(s) is to sever a large proportion of the horizontal growths right down to soil level, while leaving most of the upstanding grass untouched, apart from being mown to length by the conventional part of the mower. <IMAGE>
