Abstract
A rectifier feeds an inverter having main thyristors T1-T4 in a bridge circuit. Two trains of pulses gate bursts of oscillation from an oscillator to five pairs of thyristors in opposite arms of the bridge alternately. Each arm of the bridge is connected to a pair of anti-parallel connected quenching thyristors Ta connected to a quenching capacitor Cs. The quenching thyristors are turned on respectively by pulses derived by a differentiating circuit and a monostable circuit from the leading and trailing edges of the pulses which turn on the main thyristors in a pattern such that each main thyristor is quenched at the correct time. A protective circuit is provided to short out the d.c. voltage between the rectifier and the inverter when a short circuit is sensed (Figure 1 not shown). <IMAGE>
