Abstract

The circuitry monitors the functional integrity of segmented LED displays 1-8 especially for 7-segment display elements, detecting faults both in the control circuits and also in the individual segments or diode elements. The circuitry includes a monitoring device which checks the current throughput in the energised segments and signals short-circuit conditions and changes in the resistance of the segments using comparator and gating techniques, particularly using buffered CMOS gate circuits. The circuitry is usable in conjunction with a microprocessor and is adaptable to multiplex operation. It will accept both binary and BCD information. <IMAGE>
