Abstract
Crude oil is separated into liquid and gas in a vessel having a feed inlet 3 disposed tangentially so that a downwardly flowing helix of liquid and an upwardly flowing helix of gas are formed. The vessel has an upper outlet 4 for gas comprising a pipe extending downwardly into the vessel from the top thereof. The lower end of the vessel which is conical is provided with the baffles 22, 24 to slow down the helix of liquid and opens in a disengaging chamber for gas still present in the liquid, the gas being vented at 28 and the liquid being discharged over a weir 29. <IMAGE>
