Manhole and handhole doors.-The movements of the door are constrained to take place in concerted order by interrelated axes of rotation, whereby if the reverse movement of that last made is prevented, the door is locked against movement in any direction with respect to its hinge support. A hinged arm 10 at its end remote from the pivot pin 11 has a head 10<a> embracing freely the forked end 13 of a bolt 12. The jaws 13a, 13b of the end 13 receive the end of a lug 17 on the door 1. The bolt 12 and lug 17 are secured by a pin 18 screwed into the arm 13b and one end of this pin works in a slot 19 in the head 10<a>, the bottom of which has an openended slot 20 at right-angles to the slot 19, as shown in Figs. 6 and 7. To break the joint and remove the door, the nut 15 is slacked to allow the dog 7 to be turned through 90‹. The joint can now be broken by turning the arm 10 so as to move the door inwards. By turning the pin from the position shown in Fig. 6 to that shown in Fig. 7, the door is turned in its own plane through 90‹. The door is now turned on an axis parallel with the short axis of the door, the pin 18 being located in the slot 19 so that a swinging movement of the door 1 on the pin 18 is allowed, as the lug 17 passes through the slot 20. On turning the arm 10 out, the door is drawn through the manhole for cleaning or examination. At the ends of the slot 19 locking recesses 22 are fitted while a spring 23a functions to keep the pin 18 in its respective locking recess.
