Abstract
199,875. White, W. B., and White, A. E. April 22, 1922. Weft forks.-The prongs B or the shank A are cast to form a weft fork. The shank and prongs may be constructed from the same piece of wire, as shown in Fig. 22. The portions of the prongs or of the shank which enter the body C may be corrugated, flattened, cranked or otherwise formed to interlock with the body. Fig. 5 shows a sheet metal shank with holes a<5> into which metal flows when the body is cast. Instead of the body C being formed with a hole for a pivot pin, studs c, Fig. 21, may be cast on the sides which act as a pivot pin. The body may be made from aluminium, aluminium alloy, copper, brass or any other suitable metal. In casting, the prongs and shank may be placed in grooves in a block, or in a sand mould with top and bottom of the shape of the body, and the molten metal is poured in. When the body is constructed of soft metal such as aluminium, the pivot pin hole may be bushed with harder metal. Fig. 23 shows a body part with prong holes a', the body part being subsequently folded over at the holes to secure the the prong ends before casting. The prongs may be bent, at at b<6>, Fig. 18, to accommodate the pivot pin.
