Abstract
199,770. Elsworth, O. March 2, 1922. Fibres, obtaining.-In apparatus for stripping the husks from cocoa-nuts, the nuts are led by arms 28 from a slide 27 down guides 29 to huskloosening means comprising a series of rotary toothed discs 10, alternating with fixed plates also provided with teeth, and a resilient concave pressure member 15 having teeth 16. One or more cams 22 also having teeth are provided on the discs 10 to prevent the nuts from sticking. The loosened husks are seized between a plain roller 24, Fig. 4, and a spiral threaded roller 25 and torn off. These rollers may be resiliently mounted to accommodate extra thick pieces of fibre. The rotary discs 10 and the fixed plate may be much reduced in diameter, as in Fig. 5, the pressure member consisting of a plate 15 pivoted at 31 and having adjustable weights 32. The loosened husks are removed by a series of rotary discs 33 rotated at the same speed as the discs 10. The nuts are fed down a slide 41 and picked up one by one by a pusher-plate 42. As the plate 15 rises, its pressure is varied by rods 47, which it picks up in succession.
