Abstract

199,556. Szymanski, B. May 3, 1922. Stirrups. - A stirrup is provided with a detachable section to allow of ready disengagement of the foot of the rider if the latter is thrown. An arm 14 of a bell-crank lever is accommodated in a longitudinal recess in the bottom bar 10 to which the arm is hinged at 15. A yoke portion 12 is hinged to the other arm 15<1> of the bell-crank lever on an axis parallel to the bottom bar. In the normal position shown, the yoke portion. 12 interlocks with a yoke portion 11 integral with the bottom bar. An arm 23 is accommodated in a longitudinal slot in the arm 14 and has a common pivot therewith. The arm 23 carries a finger 22 which yieldingly engages in a cam-recess in the bottom edge of a cam lug 20 fixed to the part 12, to prevent swinging movement of the latter. A flat spring 25 attached to the bottom of the bar 10 bears against the squared ends of the arms 14, 23 t'o hold them in normal position.
