Abstract

198,376. Rhodin, B. E. F. May 26, 1922, [Convention date]. Electrolytic furnaces. -In an electrolytic cell for the production of magnesium, sodium, or potassium of the type having a partition 23 situated between the anode and the cathode and provided with V- shaped passages 13, the partition is made of non- conducting material such as alundum. The chlorides are fed through the anode 7 which is provided with a central hole 11 and distributing slots 12, and a gas outlet passage 19. Instead of a number of cathodes 8 being provided, the container 10 may be of metal and constitute the cathode. A well 20 is provided for collecting impurities. The partition may be built up from a number of sections 14, as shown in Fig. 4.
