Scraping-apparatus.-An excavator, dredger, eroder, or the like comprises a back member or frame a with cutters c, wings b pivoted at o to the ends of the frame and adjustably fixed thereto as by bolts q, skids or runners r on the wings, upper haulage ropes d attached to each end of winding spindles k provided with ratchet-and-pawl locking means m, n, and lower haulage ropes e connected by links g passing through the frame and provided with stops j. Distance-pieces may be fitted on the links g to vary their free movement. The haulage ropes at each side are coupled to a single rope leading to a haulage engine. The cutters may be plain or serrated or provided with digging teeth and the apparatus may be formed to cut in both directions as shown, or in one direction only.
