Abstract
197,348. Variable Speed Gear, Ltd., and Ingoldby, M. K. Nov, 16,1921. Universal joints and like couplings for hydraulie pumps and motors of the swash plate and radial cylinder types, in which a double universal joint is interposed between a shaft and a surrounding member, Specification 139,524 being referred to. Both joints are of the pin or Hooke's type, one being slidably connected to the shaft and the other connected to the surrounding member. As shown in Fig. 1, a collar C slidably keyed to a shaft A, is trunnioned by pins c to a ring C<1>, a yoke D surrounding the shaft being also trunnioned by pins d to the ring C<1> so as to rock at right angles to the trunnions C. At the opposite end of the yoke D a pair of trunnions d<1> parallel to the trunnions d, engages a ring E which in turn is trunnioned by relatively perpendicular pins e engaging bushes F in a ring B<1> rigidly secured to the revolving member B which may be the socket ring of a pump unit or a motor unit of the swash plate type supported by a fixed or tilting carrier &c. Antifriction rollers, such as c<x>, e<x>, are interposed between each trunnion pin and the part engaged thereby. The arrangement may be applied to a radial cylinder pump or motor as shown in Fig. 5, wherein the revolving member B surrounding the shaft is constituted by a ring carrying pistons P, the stroke of which can be varied by adjusting the position of the axis of the ring B with respect to the axis of the body G.
