Abstract
194,976. Flower, A. L. May 9, 1922. Bottles, cleaning.-In machines of the kind in which the bottles are inverted over spigots carrying cleansing means and are rotated round a circular brush which rotates in the opposite direction, the bottles also having a rising and falling motion relative to the brush and spigots, a spring-pressed endless belt is arranged to press the bottles upon the brush and allow of different-sized bottles being cleaned. A central spindle 5 carries brushes 6, 6<a> while a frame 8 concentric with this spindle and driven in the opposite direction by a gear-wheel 9 carries spigots 13 having wipers 15 supplied with water through a passage 14. Pivoted to the upper part 17 of the frame 8 are arms 16 with rollers 18 at their ends travelling on an undulating track 19, the arms having holes 21 through which pass the spigots; the bottles rest on these arms and are thus reciprocated over the brushes and pads. An endless belt 23 passing round one of the driving- wheels 24, spring-pressed pulleys 25 and fixed pulleys 26, 27 bears against the bottles x and automatically adjusts itself to bottles of different diameters. A fixed brush 22 of the same contour as the track 19 brushes the bottoms of the bottles.
