Abstract

194,078. Jernberg, C. R. Jan. 23, 1922. Forging - machines; dies.-A car wheel of the form shown in Fig. 2 is forged in two stages between pairs of co-operating dies, the lower of which is circular and is continuously rotated, the upper being of a width narrower than the diameter of the wheel and reciprocated without angular displacement. The finishing dies are shown in Fig. 8, the lower die F being spring supported in a holder E upon which it is rotated by means of sprocket teeth 4. An annular recess 40 is provided in the lower die to receive flash. The web left at h, Fig. 2, is removed by subsequent machining.
