Abstract
192,836. Durrant, G. Nov. 25, 1921. Feeding webs.-In devices for guiding fabrics into stentering, mangling, or other machines, of the kind in which pairs of rollers engage the selvedges of the fabric and are caused to grip or release the fabric by the action of feeder devices engaged by the selvedges, one roller of each pair is positively driven by a device which allows overrunning of the roller if the speed of the fabric exceeds the driving speed of the rollers, and an improved construction of feeler control is provided. The lower roller 3; Fig. 1, of each pair 3, 36, is driven by a ratchet clutch device which may consist of a ring 6, Fig. 3, secured to the roller 3 and provided with internal ratchet teeth engaged by spring pawls carried by a member 9 fixed to the driven shaft 2. A ballbearing is arranged between the parts 6 and 9. Fig. 4 shows an alterntive driving device consisting of a ratchet faced disc 14 fixed to the roller 3 and loose on the shaft 2 and a co-operating spring-pressed ratchet faced disc 16 slidably keyed on the shaft. The selvedge of the fabric moves normally beneath a pivoted feeler lever 28 which is connected by a link 25 to a pivoted pawl 22 adapted to coact with ratchet teeth 21 on a lever l oscillated by a link k from an oscillating lever h, which is moved in one direction by a cam g on a rotating gear wheel f, and in the other direction by a spring p attached to a lever m having a pin and slot connection o with the lever h. This laver m, by its oscillating movement, reciprocates a cam disc q which rotates with the gear f and engages between a pair of rollers u on a lever t carrying a plate v adapted to engage a roller on a bracket w adjustable on a shaft 30. This shaft is fixed in a pivoted support 31 carrying a shaft 32 on which is mounted an adjustable tappet 34 adapted to coact with the pivoted bracket carrying the upper roller 36. While the selvedge of the fabric is beneath the feeler 28, the pawl 22 is held clear of the teeth 21 on the lever l, which oscillates freely, the cam disc q also reciprocating freely between the rollers u. When the selvedge moves from beneath the feeler 28, the pawl 22 drops into engagement with the teeth 21, and the return movement of the lever and thus of the levers h, m and the disc q, is prevented. The rotation of the disc q then moves the lever t, raising the shaft 30 and depressing the shaft 32 so that the tappet 34 presses the upper roller 36 on to the fabric, and causes the latter to return to its normal position; thus again releasing the lever l. The provision of a series of teeth 21 on the lever l allows for automatic taking up of wear upon the teeth. Specification 19300/12 is referred to.
