Abstract

192,487. Bariquand, J. Nov. 2, 1921. Laminar springs. - In attaching suspension springs to motor or other vehicles, the spring is suspended from a member disposed laterally of the spring and provided at each end with a ball-andsocket joint. The sockets may be provided by twin shackle links 10, Fig. 1, which embrace ballheads 3, 3<1> on members 4, 4<1> non-rotatably mounted in the dumb iron 2 and the spring eye 8 respectively. The links are interconnected by a central cross-bolt 13 having a hemispherical head 14 engaging the links at one side, and a hemispherical washer 15 at the other side. The bolt is held from rotation in the shackle, and the washer is adjusted to take up wear by Belleville washers 18, 19, a nut 20, and a lock-nut 21. The shackles may be held on the spherical-ended members to exert a variable braking action. Lubricant is forced into channels 25 - - 28 by a screwed cap 24 provided with a squared pin 29 having a holding spring. The spherical-ended members 44, Fig. 5, within the spring eye 43 may engage screwed bearings 45 mounted direct in a fork 42 on the chassis beam; the bearings 45 may be sphericalended and the members 44 recessed.
