Thermo - aluminic processes.-In welding by the thermo-aluminic process in which thermo-aluminic iron is introduced between the parts to be united, for example in the making of rail joints, the slag is utilized for keeping the riser warm. Where a single riser D is employed a recess E for the slag closely surrounds the riser. In a modification employing two risers a centrally disposed slag recess half surrounds each riser.
