Abstract

Silicon carbide is heated in silicon vapour, produced at about 3000 DEG C. by heating a mixture of quartz and carbon, to form an electric resistance material possessing the characteristics of silicon. Bars, plates &c. of silicon carbide may be subjected to the treatment, which may be varied to form the material only at certain parts.
