Joint-making pack ing. - Packing for pipe joints consists of rings b, c, Fig. 1 of packing-material contained in oppositely-facing channels in a metallic sheath ing a. The packing projects beyond the tops of the channels, and the bottoms of the channels have perforations e through which the packing is pressed. Tha perforations may be circular or arranged as shown in Fig. 5. The channels in the sheathing a may be rectangular or may have inclined sides.
