Abstract

191,750. Sharples Specialty Co., (Assignees of Jones, L. D.). Oct. 7, 1921, [Convention date]. Density separators.-The carrier liquid employed in a centrifugal separator is delivered to the rotor at the normal discharge point. The machine shown is used for separting wax from diluted cylinder stock, and has a drum 1 with an inlet 11 at the lower end. The carrier liquid is supplied through the pipe 6 to the annular channel 7 and thence through the passage 8 to the drum where it forms a stratum against the wall. After this stratum has been formed any liquid that passes through the pipe 6 overflows from the channel 7 except for such small quantities as are necessary to replace leakage. Wax separated from oil floats on the surface of the carrier liquid and is discharged through the passages 12, 13, 14 while the oil is discharged through passages 16, 17, 18. Heating fluid-chambers 23, 24 facilitate the removal of the wax. In the modification shown in Fig. 4 the carrier liquid is supplied to the annular conduit 27 and discharged to the channel 30 and thence through the passage 31 into the bowl. The oil is discharged through the passages 34, 35 and the wax is discharged through the passage 31 and channel 30, over the weir 32 with the excess of carrier fluid.
