18,029. Mills, W., and Morgan, W. Dec. 28. Blasting - fuses. - Relates to Bickford and like fuses b for use in projectiles and land mines, and consists in waterproofing the cut end of the fuse with a solution of inflammable material such as collodion or a solution of nitrocellulose in ether-alcohol or in amyl acetate. Some meal gunpowder d may be sprinkled over the waterproof coating c before it is dry, in which case a second coating e may be applied ; or meal gunpowder may be added to the waterproofing solution. If desired, the waterproofing may be extended for a certain distance alongside the fuse or along its whole length.
