Be itrknown that I, JEAN HARLi': a citizen of the French Republic, residing at Rouen, in the French Republic, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Det- This explosive which is generally known can easily be produced n a perfectly pure state'and in this case it possemes an extraor- (linary stalbility against heat and moisture.
This explosive is one of the most powerful explosives known; it detonates easily for example of a primer of fulminate of mercury. v
The fuse is made accordin to the-usual methods. If a detonating tu' e with metal cover is to be made thetetranitropentaerythrite is preferably mixed with an explosive substance which melts more easily than the tetranitropentaerythrite, for. ex-
ample trinitrotoluene so that the tubes can be filled without any difliculty, said tubes being then drawn 'out in the well known manner.- This method of, filling can be used also for fuses, the principal explosive charge of which is not of tetranitropentaei'ythrite but of any explosive which is also not easily fusible.
The explosive substance mentioned is further particularly adapted for the manufacture 0f flexible fuses with textile covers. It is generally known that, with the explosives used actually, it is impossible to obtain a regular working as far as the flexible detonating fuses with textile covers are concerned. The explosives which have been used for this purpose are not sufficientlysensitive to ignite with certainty or they Specification of Letters Patent.

are. notsufliciently pure and consequently detonate irregularly.
The tetranitropentaerythrite being obtamed at the state of, perfect purity and remaining. at the same time stable and adapted to ignite re ularly and easily permits of making flexible detonating fuses of perfect sure and regular working,'said substance being either usedalone or admixed with other substances. The manufacturing of said fuses is effected in the well known manner by pouring the explosive in powder to the tubular envelop in quantities corresponding with the progress of manufacture.
The tetranitropentaerythrite can either be used alone or admixed in convenient proportions with another substance such as the nitro-benzin, nitrotoluene, phenols and ni-v trated amins. Theenvelop of the fuse can be of any convenient material either metallic,-textile" or the like.
Further advantages of the detonat'ing fuses made according to the present invention are: absolute stability against the heat are admixed with the tetranitropentaery thrite, various degrees of power and sensitiveness can be obtained and the qualities of limits.
I claim I I 1. A detonating fuse for the instantaneous within very wide and the moistness,'etc'. If other substances I transmission of detonation waves from a primary, detonator to an explosive charge, such fuse comprising a tube filled with a detonating composition comprising as its essential constituent, tetranitropentaerythri'te' plosive substance which melts at a lower temperature than said thrite.
