Abstract
16,785. Cutler, G. E., and Monesmith, B. L. Nov. 29. Floors.-In freight cars and other carriers, the load is carried by an auxiliary floor which is formed of a number of separate sections 9 mounted on rollers or like antifriction devices 14 and capable of independent longitudinal movement, end springs 12 for absorbing shocks being provided. The auxiliary floor sections may be hinged at the sides in such a manner that the longitudinal movement is not interfered with, whereby the sections may be turned up against the sides of the vehicle when not required. The sections may also be fastened together so as to move as a whole. In a modification, the end shock-absorbers extend down to the floor and sufficiently high to co-operate with the load carried by the auxiliary floor.
