Abstract
16,004. Beaumont, W. W., and Burt, L. N. Nov. 12. Volatile solvents, recovering.-In apparatus wherein a web of material, treated, for example, with a chemical solution, travels over a series of drums or rollers within a chamber and through passages through which heated air is passed, the passages are arranged so that the hot air is introduced at two different points, the volatile constituents of the solution being first driven off and removed, and the aqueous vapour being afterwards separately driven off and removed. In the apparatus shown, hot air entering at the points E, E' carries the volatile solvent off at the point F, while the material, now free of solvent, travels on towards the exit point D<1>, and is dried on its way by hot air either entering at the point G and leaving at the point H, or entering at the points J, J<1> and passing, in counter-current, to the point G'. The partitions are cut away to provide air passages, either above and below the various rollers or at the sides of the chamber.
