Abstract
14,868. H³ttemann, W. Oct. 20. Latches, sliding; locking sliding latches.-A sliding door - latch is operated through a bell-crank lever by a projection on a sleeve arranged so as to turn with the handle on the outside of the door, the projection also being operated by a slotted sleeve connected to the handle on the inside of the door and having a projection which is brought into locking- engagement with the sliding bolt, to lock the door, by turning the handle on the inside of the door backwards. The slotted sleeve, which carries the locking-projection 3, is rotatable on the sleeve 11, which carries the projection for operating the bell-crank lever 12 to release the spring-pressed latch bolt 4. The handles are held in locking position by a spring- pressed block 5, Fig. 1, having projections 6 to engage locking-recesses in the inner handle 1, release being effected by a push-button 7. This locking- device may be replaced by a locking-lever on the handle and notches in the latch spindle. A disk 14 may be provided outside the door, as shown, to indicate when the door is locked. Fig. 6 shows a construction in which the door is locked automatically on closing. A spring is arranged so as to tend to turn the inner handle into locking position, but is prevented from doing so when the door is open by a lever 17 engaging a projection 16 on the sleeve carrying the locking-projection 3. The lever 17 also carries a pin 20 to hold a spring- pressed slide 19 in its retracted position, and is moved to its release position by a slotted bar 18 which is automatically pushed in when the door closes. In its forward position, the slide 19 pushes up a pin 21 to retain the projection 3 in its locking position. The slide 19 is released by a key. The inner handle and the latch spindle are connected by slots and a sleeve with projecting pins so arranged that the handle can be given an extra backward turn to bring the locking-projection 3 into a notch 31 in the latch bolt 4. Projections on a bent spring are made to lock the handles by screwing into a member which tends to flatten the bent spring and press its projections into locking-recesses. Electrically-operated fastenings.-In a modification, the lever 17 is released and the slide 19 is retracted electrically.
