Abstract

Joint - making packing. - Packing rings, washers, &c. are made from a cord of fibre and metal, preferably from the cord described in Specification 28,871/11, [Class 109, Ropes &c.], which is tied into a Turk's-head knot, Fig. 3, and then pressed by a plunger e into a die c, having a central spindle d. Fig. 4 shows a complete packing-ring for a piston or ram. By altering the shape of the die or plunger, a washer as shown in Fig. 5 is produced.
