Abstract

Ironing - machines with pressing action only; heating-arrangements for; steaming and damping apparatus. -A garment-pressing machine is fitted with a pressing-head which encloses a flash steamgenerator for supplying steam to the articles under treatment, the arrangement being such that no condensed steam or unvaporized water comes into contact with the articles. The apparatus comprises a fixed pressing-head 34 fitted internally with a flash steam-generator, and a table 3 supporting various bucks for receiving the articles. The main buck 4 is pivoted to a member 5 so that it can be turned aside to allow a stem supporting a sleeve or shoulder buck to be inserted in a socket 9. The table can be traversed horizontally and also raised and lowered to bring the bucks into contact with the pressure head. The steamgenerator comprises a copper-covered electric heater 14 which vaporizes water sprayed horizontally from the ends 16 of two supply pipes 13. The heater is fitted between two plates, the upper of which is fitted with depending flanges 31 close to the heater, while the other is fitted with upstanding flanges 23 remote from the heater. The steam, which is prevented from condensing by additional electric heaters 21, passes through the holes 27 and thence through a screen plate and a double layer of stretched fabrics 43 on to the clothes. The fabrics are stretched by being wedged into a V-shaped recess 48, Fig. 9, by the clamping-ring 46, which is forced upwards by spring bolts 40. The pressing-head is pivoted to the standard by means of apertured lugs 33.
