Abstract

12,574. Jackson, W. J. Mellersh-, [Rubber Regenerating Co.]. Sept. 1. Extrusion machines; processes ; moulding indiarubber.-Plastic material, such as india - rubber, is opened up while under the action of a vacuum to withdraw entrapped air, moisture, or gases. It is fed by a screw 5 in a conical or cylindrical casing 4 into the larger end of the conical straining or tubing chamber 1. Exhausting-pipes 9 are provided on both the feeding and straining chambers. The feeding-screw may be replaced or supplemented by a pair of rollers or a plunger or may be placed at right-angles to the chamber 1 instead of in alinement therewith ; and the pipe which unites them may gradually increase in diameter. A central drive for the screws may also be provided, and both chambers may be jacketed for heating or cooling ; the screws may also be of different pitch and driven at different rates
