Abstract
11,472. Anderson, H. N. Aug. 18, 1914, [Convention date]. Rolling wheels. -In rolling gearwheels, the die roll and the blank are rotated at a high speed. The blank, which has a fairly high carbon content and may be high-manganese steel, is worked hot by a cold die rolls, thus producing surfacehardening. The rolled blank may be ground or subjected to any heat treatment desired. The blank is held in a clamp 10 and pressed in turn against the die rolls 6, 7 by operating the screw 15, the movement being limited by stops 16, 17. The rolls and blank are driven through the gearing shown.
