Circular machines.-Relates to yarn-changing mechanism for knitting-machines, and comprises means for effecting, in addition to ordinary changes of yarn, changes at the same needle wales in successive courses for the production of split-tube fabrics, split-fcot hosiery, &c., the invention being illustrated in connexion with the mechanism described in Specifications 12,722/13 and 6533/14. Thrust bars 460 for two or more of the yarn-guides F', F<3> are furnished with lugs a, b adapted to aline with horizontal levers 601, 602 actuated by cams 296<a> on the web-holder bed 295, whereby the bars are moved laterally and, by their upper ends engaging with projections on the yarn-guides, cause these to be alternately active and inactive during each course. To ensure the entry of a new yarn, suture needles n<3> are provided between the different needle sets. The needles n' have abnormally short butts and are positioned at a higher yarn-taking level by a cut away portion 10 of the stitch cam 8, which may be slidably mounted. The lateral movement of the thrust bars is controlled by a comb bar 450 and eccentric disks 448. Fig. 7 shows a modified form of thrust bar in which the lug a<1> is formed on a separate member 460<y> slidably mounted on the thrust bar 460<x>, whereby the yarn-gnide F<2> may be independently operated through the bar 460<x> and the cam 502<a> on the pattern drum 120, or through the bar 460<y>, which is controlled by a cam 501<a> on the drum 120. One of the guides F<2>, F<3> may be employed for splicing purposes, or a third guide, controlled by a thrust bar furnished with a lug similar to the lugs a, b, may be provided.
