9790. Hoyt, A. S. July 5. Starch.-A starch powder, which on addition of water is suitable for treating clothes, is obtained by removing the greater part or the whole of the albumen from wheat starch or the like, cooking it until it is jellified, drying the jelly, and reducing the product to a finelydivided state. The starch, mixed with water as it comes from the settling-tanks or centrifugal machines, is placed in another centrifugal machine with much water, which passes out of the rim apertures, carrying the albuminous matters with it, the treatment being repeated if desired. The starch from the interior of the machine is separated from the bulk of its contained water and is then cooked in any usual manner to a jelly, which is dried, for instance on heated rollers.
