Doors, wagon. -The sliding door of a freight car is mounted between upper and lower tracks 2, 3 with antifriction members disposed between the door and the lower track, and is adapted to be locked automatically in the closed position by a spring latch comprising a plate 13 secured at one end to the door and formed at its other end with a lip 16, arranged to be received in a notch 17 in the door edge and to engage a keeper 11 carried by one of the door stiles. The bearing may comprise rollers or balls 9, Fig. 6, disposed between spacing-blocks 7 in the lower track 3, which is of U-section with slots 8 forming an outlet for rain and sleet. In a modification, Fig. 8, the lower edge of the door is formed with recesses to receive rollers or balls 22<1> retained by the inwardly-turned lower edges of plates 23 secured to the door. The plate 13 is provided with a handle 18 and with an outstanding lug 19 disposed immediately beneath a similar lug 22 secured to the door. In the closed position of the door, holes in the lugs 19, 22 register to receive a seal wire or a padlock. The keeper 11 is formed by an inturned portion of a rubbing-plate 10 secured to the wall of the car. In a modification, the end of the lip 16 is bent inwardly at right-angles to provide a firmer bearing on the table 10. In a further modification, a plate spring, of which the tension can be adjusted, bears against the outer face of the plate 13.
