Abstract

9194. Hill, J. A. June 22. Projectiles.-Relates to explosive shells for use against aircraft of the kind containing weights connected together by wire ropes, chains, or the like. According to this invention, there are one or more series of weights connected by ropes or chains, preferably coiled, one weight of each series being heavier than its companion weight or weights, so that a spreading effect will be obtained and the destructive action increased. In the construction shown, a rear weight d surrounding the flashtube c is connected bv wire ropes f to a number of lighter hook-like weights e supported on a plate g in the forward part of the shell. The ropes may be secured to the weights by having their strands spread apart and cast in. The Provisional Specification also states that weights are connected together in pairs, and the forward weight may be the heavier.
