Abstract

8664. Baker, J. S., and Callow, J. June 11. Dough dividing and working machines ; rolling- machines.-Relates to the moulding of dough, more particularly for the production of tin or Scotch loaves, and consists in producing a tapered mass or sheet and subsequently winding or rolling such mass into a coil. Fig. 1 shows apparatus in which each dough portion, after being subjected to a preliminary sheeting and rolling operation by apparatus of the kind described in Specification 18,765/00, is delivered to a belt b and passes through sheeting-rollers b<2> on to a belt c, which carries it through folding and tapering rollers d, beneath a compressing-band e, and delivers it to a coiling-apparatus of the type described in Specification 11,724/14 and comprising a spindle f co-operating with a belt f<1>, after which the coiled mass may be further rolled beneath a board or belt g. To facilitate the withdrawal of the coiled dough from the spindle f, the belt c is arrested during the withdrawal, and preferably the spindle f is also arrested; or the spindle carrying the dough may be raised from the belt c, or the belt lowered, for example by providing a section c' movable by cams c<5> ; or, according to the Provisional Specification, a stationary shoe may be interposed between the belt c and the dough. The tapering of the mass is effected by reciprocating the ends of the rollers d transversely of the belt c by means of levers d<9>, Fig. 4, oscillated by a crankpin d<13> and links d<12>. In place of the rollers d, pivoted-flap tools inclined to the belt c or a shoe may be employed. Alternatively, the dough may be tapered without folding, by passing it between rollers i, Fig. 7, adapted to enter more or less into sockets i', or rollers formed of telescopic portions j, j', Fig. 8. According to the Provisional Specification, the dough may be folded and tapered by means of angularly-arranged rollers.
