Abstract
8306. Burlingham, W. June 4. Percussive hand tools. --Relates to percussive cleaners for boiler tubes &c., of the kind in which resilient impact blades 15 are vibrated by means of a reciprocating tool piston 20 operated by fluid pressure. According to the invention, the blades 15 extend completely over the body 1 of the cleaner and are attached at the rear of the body so as to be separately removable, preferably by means of a flanged cap 30 which is secured by a nut 31 upon the inlet pipe 10 and embraces the ends of the blades. For this purpose, the rear ends of the blades are formed with an offset portion 28 and a terminal tongue 29. The forward ends of the blades have an inner surface 17 to coact with the conical head 14 of the piston, and an outer surface 18 which is either serrated or plain, according as the tool is employed for detaching scale from the interior or the exterior of the tube. Longitudinal grooves 2 are preferably formed along the body of the cleaner to accommodate the shanks of the blades.
