Abstract

8061. Cole G., and Reece Button Hole Machinery Co. May 31. Sewing - machines; thread-cutters and thread-end holders.-A thread clamp and cutter, which holds the severed end of the needle thread until the next stitching operation is commenced and is shown applied to a button-hole machine, comprises clamping-jaws 8, 9 formed on arms 10, 11 carried by the work-clamp arm 6 and operated by a member 16 on the stitch-frame. The arm 10 is fixed to the arm 6 and carries a pivot 12 for the arm 11, the rocking movement of which is limited by a pin and slot 15, 14. The clamp is held open during the stitching operation by a spring 25. At the end of the stitching, the relative movement of the stitch-frame and clamp frame causes the cam 21 on the member 16 to engage the lug 24 on the arm 11 to close the clamp over the thread t. The clamp is held closed until the next initial stitches are made by the engagement of the parts 24, 22. A thread-cutter 26 is secured to the underside of the jaw 8, and the thread is cut as the operator moves the work.
