Respirators.-A respirator for use in noxious atmospheres comprises a closed bag or bags containing filtering substances and chemicals, with nostril tubes leading from the interior of the bags and fitted with check valves, an exhalation mouthpiece with non-return valve being optionally provided. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the outer bag a, formed of towelling or other fabric, or of perforated rubber or metal, is shaped with a pouch to fit over the chin and is provided with a double strap m passing over the back of the head. The inner bag b is fitted with nostril tubes h which lead to the interior of the bag and may be provided with packing frills k, Fig. 6. The space between the bags is filled with fibrous material saturated with a suitable chemical, for example, sodium thiosulphate with an alkali such as sodium bicarbonate. The exhalation mouth-piece c may be fitted with a duck's bill or other flexible valve. A sleeve d communicating with the space between the inner and outer bags serves as a charging means for the packing material.
