Presses and moulding- machines with fixed mould tables or moulds; delivery; feeding and measuring ; pressure - producing me - chanism; sanding and cleaning.-In tile presses, more particularly of the type comprising upper and lower dies E, D operated by a toggle L which is broken twice during each revolution of the cam shaft B in order to give a second pressure, both dies are slightly withdrawn after the first compression to permit escape of air. As shown in Fig. 13, the descent of the upper die is limited by stops E<10> causing the lower die to rise, and after the first compression, the upper die rises and the lower die sinks slightly until arrested by an adjustable latch R operated through a lever R' by a suitable cam. The toggle L is hung from a shaft K having eccentric end portions, which is rocked by a lever M operated by a cam m<1>, lever M', and adjustable link m to give an enhanced second pressure. To vary the size of the tiles, the faces of the dies and mould may be provided with liners or face - plates ; also the distance between the dies may be varied, for example by an adjustable stop S for the lower die and by an eccentric bushing V, Fig. 12, surrounding the shaft K, adjustable by a shaft U and pinions T, for the upper die. To ensure a uniform feed, the reciprocating charger N, Fig. 11, is fitted with transverse partitions n<5> and agitating-devices n<6>, which are actuated through cranks o<3> by a pinion o adapted to engage with a constantly-running gear 0 when the charger is in its forward position. Movement is imparted to the charger through arms n' and rods n, which are disconnectible from each other, whereby the charger may be withdrawn to render the lower die accessible for washing &c. The rods n are furnished with recesses adapted to embrace pins on the aims n<2>, from which they may be lifted by a lever W provided with arms w adapted to embrace extensions n'. Curved guards n<13>, Y prevent disengagement or re-engagement of the rods n and arms n<2>, except when in the position shown. A brush P, mounted in front of the charger N on crank-arms connected by rods p to the rods n, is depressed to clean the lower die during the forward movement of the charger, and is raised to clear the material in the mould during the return, these movements being caused by a slotted connexion N<10> between the rods n and charger. The brush is rotated by a rack P'. An ejector p<1> on the front of the charger delivers the moulded tiles.
