Abstract

5968. Beal, F. C. April 21. Riding-saddles.-Relates to riding-saddles, particularly for military purposes, in which the side boards are pivotally connected to the arches so that they will automatically adjust themselves to the conformation of the horse. In the arrangement shown in Fig. II, the arches b are attached to spacing-boards a' which are hinged to the side boards a in the manner shown in Fig. IV, d being a hinge plate secured to the side board, and e a shank passing through the spacing-board and the foot of the arch. In a modification, the arches are hinged directly to the side boards, each side board being preferably provided with hinge plates d<2>, Fig. V, and each foot c<1> of the arch formed with a hinge member c<2>. The side boards may be locked in their adjusted position by set-screws Z.
