Abstract

5714. Fairweather, W., [Singer Manufacturing Co.]. April 16. Sewing-machines; spools, winding.-The non- resilient driving-wheel of a spool winder is resiliently attached to the winder spindle, preferably by being secured upon a steel pin 17 clamped within the hollow 16 of the spindle. The driving- wheel 18 is arranged to contact with the balancewheel 5 of the machine and the spindle is mounted in an arm 8 pivoted upon a driving-belt guard 1. The arm is held with the driving-wheel in contact with the balance-wheel by a latch 22 having a part 25 which is engaged by the wound thread when the spool is full and forces the latch to release the arm 8 so that a spring may withdraw it from operative position. A second tooth t<x> on the latch limits the upward movement of the arm. To vary the pressure of the driving-wheel upon the balance-wheel, the latch 22 is made in two parts so that its length can be varied. The arm 8 may have a shield 28 for the driving-wheel.
