Abstract

3500. Groves, H. H., and Brittain, H. March 4. Automatic circuit-breakers. -Automatic circuit-breakers are tripped by a magnetizable member under the influence of (a) a magnetic field and (b) a second movable member, itself having a timed action produced by electro - magnetic means. The circuit-breaker shown diagrammatically in Fig. 1 is tripped by an armature c when attracted by a magnet a under sufficient overload. The armature is also capable of being moved more slowly up towards the magnet a under a small continued overload by a pivoted rocker l actuated by a pin k on a disk with a. worm and worm-wheel gearing to a motor f having opposed series and shunt coils. Calibration of the motor is provided for by a longitudinally displaceable core u having an enlarged part v, Fig. 2. The invention may be applied in connexion with resistance switches and to control indicators.
