3498. Calthrop, E. R. March 4. Parachutes in which the rigging is formed of flat tapes, as described in Specification 21,312/14, are provided with means whereby the paying-out of the tapes is retarded and the weight of the passenger gradually transferred to the parachute cover. In the construction shown, the tape 1 is payed out from a spool 3 through gripping-surfaces 8 pressed together by rubber bands 11. The tapes are stiffened by a stiffening - composition, such as ordinary paint, to prevent them from curling.
