3450. Bristow, A. March 4. Cutting and slicing vegetables.-A power-driven root-cutter D of ordinary type is combined with a moving manger E, which receives the cut roots and carries them direct to the cattle pen B, Fig. 1. A fixed frame A open at the top carries rollers F on which the manger E rests, being guided in its motion by lateral rollers and operated by a rack- and-pinion gear from the shaft J. This shaft is geared to the main shaft K of the cutter through a reversing-gear comprising chain-wheels 0, P, Fig. 5, spur-wheels Q, R, and a clutch 8, by which the wheels P, R are alternatively coupled to the shaft K. In the shed C are supports V for the manger E, which may pass through to a second cattle pen on the opposite side.
